Most days I ‘Wild Swim’ from the beaches close to my home near Falmouth, Cornwall. Lockdown was very inspiring for me in terms of discovering new havens from which ideas have emerged. Much time is spent observing and sketching to capture the natural elements through gestural mark making, contrast of light and dark etc.
Being fully immersed, literally, in the surroundings which are so integral to my current work is incredibly uplifting. I’m constantly mentally recording colour, textures and surface patterns.
Each of my paintings evolve from a particular personal level allowing the paint to speak and flow and my senses to drift. Every day brings a new experience, different atmospheric moods and reflections on the water’s surface.
Living and working in such a beautiful place is incredibly inspiring.
