In her Bristol studio, Sophie designs and makes ceramic, resin and bronze sculpture, as well as bold assemblage pieces with a mix of materials. She collaborates with artists, mould makers, writers and dancers to realize her designs and commissions.
Sophie makes collections of pieces exploring themes including motion and stillness, human and animal connections, storytelling and death. She has completed commissions for private and corporate clients and her sculpture is available through galleries around the UK.
Previous experience includes making architectural details and props for TV, and designing for companies in the garden ornament industry, where she made Buddhas, birdbaths, owls and obelisks.
Sophie has taught art for thirty years and is a life sculpture tutor with the Royal West of England Academy. She has led sculpture projects in schools, for galleries and the Probation Service, and was a creative industry business adviser for four years in Bristol.
Born in West Dorset in the late 1950s, Sophie grew up in Yorkshire and trained at Winchester Art School before moving to London. In 1987 she moved to Bristol. Sophie also runs HOURS, a gallery and event space in central Bristol.
