The popularity of the seascape has grown in recent times when many of us have had lives interrupted and restricted. We have had to wait at home, relying on our memories, standing on imaginary beaches, watching illusive virtual waves and planning our next trip to the sea.
In response to this we have curated an exhibition that celebrates the sea. We have invited over twenty five artists from across the country each to contribute a single painting of the sea.
The joy of this collection is the unique insight each artist gives us into their own personal relationship with the sea. Bringing their own processes and practices to painting and their personal history with the sea, we see through their eyes and hear what they have to say about it’s mysteries. Each painting transmits the riches of the sea to us personally, like a musician playing intuitively just for us.
Each artist has also written a short and fascinating personal insight into what the sea means to them and why they are drawn to paint it.
A percentage of the sales from the exhibition will go to The Wave Project, a UK charity that offers surf therapy to young people, helping to improve their emotional and physical wellbeing.
